A Denison, Texas, man who ran from sheriff’s deputies was arrested after telling a Durant police lieutenant that he was running from the police, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies went to a home Monday in the 800 block of North 15th Avenue in Durant to look for two people wanted on felony warrants out of Grayson County.
A man later identified as Chance Ryan Snider, 23, answered the door, and when deputies asked if the wanted individuals were there, he said he did not know who was there, but he would check. The report stated that Snider then shut the door.
Deputy Tim Harwood began knocking on the door again, but no one answered. Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Nave checked the back of the home where he encountered Snider. Nave told him to stop walking away because he needed to talk to him, and according to the report, Snider took off running.
Durant Police Lt. Chris Marcy was visiting a relative when he saw Snider climb over a fence into the backyard. Marcy, the report stated, asked Snider what he was doing and Snider replied that he was running from the police. Marcy then told Snider, “I am the police,” and Marcy took him into custody.
The report stated that Snider possessed a billfold that contained a stolen driver’s license and credit cards that had been stolen in automobile burglaries. According to the report, Snider said he found the items in the street. He was booked into jail.
Snider has been charged with felony knowingly concealing stolen property and misdemeanor obstructing an officer.
In another incident, Bryan County deputies confronted a woman inside a vacant home in Mead after neighbors complained of thefts from vacant buildings in the area.
A deputy went to the home in the 300 block of Walnut Street and observed a silver car parked behind a storage building. Upon entering the home, he found Karen Madison, 45, who said she was looking for baby clothes.
Madison had permission to enter the home, but upon a search, a white powdery substance and a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamines was allegedly found in her possession.
She was arrested for possession of methamphetamines - second or subsequent charge.
