Now that was a heck of a basketball game

What it might be is a season turner-arounder for Southeastern.

Coach Darin Grover’s Savage Storm ladies looked like a team coached by Darin Grover in a last-second 91-90 victory over Oklahoma Christian in Bloomer Sullivan Arena Monday night.

It was a 22-point swing from the season-opening 98-77 loss at Oklahoma Christian and it featured enough hustle to please even hard-core fans.

The shorter Storm contested the taller Eagles on most shots and the crowd definitely got its money’s worth. It could have been closer, but not by much since the Storm picked up the winning basket on Emily Williams’ jumper in the lane with less than 3.0 seconds remaining.

Williams is a 5-7 sophomore from Martin’s Mill, Texas, and Wayland Baptist University.

The statistics were scary with SE collecting six offensive rebounds to 34 for the visitors. That’s 28 extra chances to score and that’s usually more than enough.

As it often does, the difference came at the free-throw line where the Storm knocked in 21 of 30 (70 percent) to OC’s 20 of 35 (57.1 percent).

What it was, was a heck of a basketball game. Wish you could have seen it.

CIRCLE DECEMBER 6 on your calendars.

That’s the night of the first Southeastern home doubleheader. The Storm will host Arkansas Tech in Great American Conference action with the ladies tipping at 5:30 and the men at 7:30.

Meanwhile, back on the road …

The men will visit Union University for a rematch, then play two games in the Kentucky Wesleyan Classic in Owensboro.

The women travel to Texas A&M-Commerce November 24.

GAC competition will start on the road November 29 when the men and women visit Henderson State, then cross the road to play Ouachita Baptist on December 1.

THE WIN OVER Oklahoma Christian is guaranteed to make the bird tender and juicy and it also wards off indigestion.

You know you will eat too much. It’s what we do. Just go ahead and do it and get over it. A bit of stomach discomfort isn’t too much to pay for stuffing your face and watching some football.

Take a small break from the hardboards and get fired up for December 6 and Arkansas Tech at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

There is plenty to be thankful for, regardless of how you voted.

As for Black Friday: You’re on your own. I will never do that again.
