COLBERT – The Rattan Rams faced either Colbert, Tushka or Roff on Saturday for the championship of the fifth annual Colbert Summer Invitational baseball tournament.

The Rams are the only undefeated team in the tournament, having defeated Boswell (15-6), Coleman (7-4) and Colbert (5-2). If the defending Class A state champions win Saturday, it will be Rattan’s third consecutive crown at the Colbert tournament.

They got there Friday in a 5-2 win over the host Leopards. Colbert Coach Lance Britt said Kason Krob and Rattan’s Cade Clay both threw complete games, and both threw well.

“Krob threw all seven, he did a good job but gave up a couple of unearned runs,” Britt said. “We had chances to score, but we left some guys on base and we just couldn’t get the big hit.”

Cade Carter had two hits for the Leopards. Preston Rice recorded an RBI single, while Caleb Shoemake and Keller Cummins also had hits in Friday’s game.

In other action Friday, Boswell thumped Calera 9-2, but then the Scorpions lost a defensive dandy 1-0 to Tushka. Roff defeated Madill and Coleman, setting up a Saturday showdown between the Roff Tigers and the Tushka Tigers.

The winner of the Roff-Tushka game will battle Colbert, with a spot in the championship game versus Rattan on the line.
