CROWDER – The Silo Rebels ended their basketball season on Friday, losing a Class 2A second-round regional game by a single point to the rival Rattan Rams.
Jarris Hamilton and Rattan’s Cade Clay traded baskets as the clock ticked off the final seconds in a game largely controlled by the Rams. Silo’s Leonard Sandler was unable to launch a final shot as two Rams covered him up at the perimeter for the final five seconds of the game.
Rattan took the 49-48 win despite a 20-point outing for Kendall Shives and 17 from Hamilton. The pair connected on eight shots from behind the arc.
The Rams led 12-11 after one quarter as all five Rattan starters reached the score book while Shives scored nine of Silo’s first 11. The Rebels outscored Rattan 9-6 to take a slim 20-18 halftime lead.
Rattan outscored Silo 21-12 in the third as Clay lit up from downtown for 10 points. Hamilton and Shives scored all 16 Silo points in the fourth, getting their team within three before Brett Mack of Rattan went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Hamilton’s corner three with 90 seconds remaining made it a two-point Ram advantage. Rattan committed a back court turnover, and Silo burned 45 seconds of clock before Hamilton drained another triple to give Silo a 48-47 lead with 30 seconds to go.
Clay answered with a 10-footer at the nine second mark, and then the Rams held Silo for the win.
Despite opening the season with an impressive string of wins, Silo ends the season with a 1-2 run through the playoffs and a final season record of 19-10.
