Ronald Gene Nicholson was born December 28, 1934 in Denison, Texas the son of Roy Dale and Elba Louise (Stapleton) Nicholson. He passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 while hospitalized at Texoma Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with two kinds of cancer.
Ron graduated from Denison High School in 1952 and attended East Texas State College. In 1955 Ron moved to Dallas and went to work for General Motors Acceptance Corp. After working in the Dallas office for 22 years he was transferred to other offices located in Lubbock, Beaumont and Houston, Texas and after 41 years and 7 months he retired as accounting manager and moved back home to Denison in 2000, where he enjoyed being near family and longtime friends. He loved going out on the lake and cruising around.
On June 2, 1956 Ron married the love of his life, Glenda Lane of Hendrix, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two sons, Ronald Gene Jr. and Bobby Glenn. Ron and Glenda celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2012.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda Nicholson of Denison, TX, son, Bobby Glenn Nicholson and wife, Melinda of Vidor, TX, granddaughter, Crystal Schultz and husband, Matthew of Cypress, TX, great-granddaughter, Makayla Lea Schultz of Cypress, TX, two sisters, Betty Snider and Darlene Harrod and husband, Jim all of Denison, TX, brother-in-law, Jim Lane and wife, Dovie of Durant, OK, sister-in-law, Barbara Payne and husband, Glee of Desoto, TX, sisters-in-law, Florine Draper of Greenville, TX and Paula Lane of Denison, TX. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he loved deeply along with a host of friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Gene Nicholson Jr, father, Rev. Roy Dale Nicholson, mother, Elba Louise Nicholson, brother, Gerald Lynn Nicholson and wife, Sharon (Gray) Nicholson, brothers in law, Clyde Snider and Charlie Patti Jr., sister, Joyce Carolyn Nicholson, step-fathers, Ben Scott and Raymond Beggs.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Family night will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, September 5, 2012 at Fisher Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to Unity Christian School, 1900 Woodlawn Blvd, Denison, Texas 75020.
A special and heartfelt thanks goes out from Ron’s family for all the wonderful care and love shown to him from all the doctors and medical personnel throughout his struggles with the health issues he had, especially Dr. Alex Eshan and the staff and nurses at the Texas Cancer Center in Sherman and TMC’s 4th floor nurses who took such good care of him along with Home Hospice of Grayson County.
