Durant Rotarians received a visit and pep talk from Rotary District Governor Phil Moss on Tuesday.

Moss is from Altus, and presides over numerous Rotary clubs in southwestern Oklahoma known as Rotary District 5770. He presented the annual Rotary theme banner to the Durant club on Tuesday: “Peace Through Service.”

He explained that this “peace” can come in the form of helping to fight child hunger locally as well as working through the various international Rotary projects.

“We need to make sure our communities know about Rotary,” he said. “We’re going to reach out and let people know who we are and what we do. By working together, we can accomplish some great things.”

Moss was pleased to hear of the formation of a Rotaract Club targeting younger people at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Two members of the formative group attended Tuesday’s meeting.

The local Rotary Club will be volunteering to staff the upcoming gun and knife show as part of the 3rd Annual Wild Hog Festival at Choctaw Event Center on Oct. 12-13. This event is anticipated to bring in many tourists and their dollars, with some proceeds to benefit Rotary efforts locally and abroad.

Rotary Club of Durant meets at noon every Tuesday at KC Roadhouse in downtown Durant.
