Born January 3, 1929 in Paris, Texas, Jack was the son of Lyman Shird Young and Aletha Lenora (Moore) Young. On April 14, 1951 in Frederick, Oklahoma, he married Nelda Sue Kent.
Jack was a loving and devoted husband, wonderful father and adored grandfather. Loved deeply by family, friends, and neighbors … all of whom have countless fond memories of great times together. Deeply rooted in family affairs and a rather quite and gentle spirit with a touch of subtle humor was Jack’s nature.
He served our great country in Korea as a US Army soldier. Through the years, his hobbies were raising cattle and horses. He also loved to hunt quail in his home state of Oklahoma, and he especially loved watching his favorite team, the Oklahoma Sooners, play football.
For 26 years, Jack drove a truck for Aviall, Inc. based out of Lovefield. A near 300 mile daily round trip, he would drive from Frederick, OK to Dallas, TX, five days a week delivering airplane engines. Honored by his company for his first million miles driven, The Daily Leader headlines read, ‘Hit the Road Jack’, commending him with a nice article in the paper on a fine job. Jack contined his work for Aviall, driving more than two million miles on short and long haul trips before he retired at age 65.
Jack was well known for being punctual. His workmates would say you could set your watch by his arrival. A practical man, he made a conscious effort to be precise and chose to do things in an orderly fashion whether in his work, or his home life. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren often commented on his deliberate nature, noting his daily routines to always be consistent.
A dedicated Christian man and member of the Cornerstone Community Nazarene Church, Jack loved his church family and enjoyed serving for many years as an offertory usher and a door greeter.
In the final hours of his life, after a week in the hospital fighting multiple health challenges, he asked his loving wife of 61 years to take him home. Within 12 hours of Nelda honoring his request, Jack passed peacefully . ..on to his final resting place in heaven to be with our Lord Jesus Christ and a host of awaiting friends and family members.
His survivors include his wife of Caddo Mills; son Ronnie Young and wife Kathryn of Sherman; daughters Jennifer Simmons and husband Ricky of Durant, Okla. and Deedee Williamson of Dallas; brother Truman Young and wife Jolene of New Castle, Okla.; sisters Rita Brown of Robinson, Tx., Joan McDaniel and husband Lynn of Bossier City, La., and Addie Jane Winan of Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren Dean Balentine and wife, Christy of Mead, Okla., Bruce Balentine and wife Kandy of Durant, Okla., B. J. Balentine and wife Harmony of Aubrey, Tx., Shasta Waltner and husband Cole of Columbus, Montana, Candice Kirovac and husband Todd of Altus, Okla., Carley Cherry of Sherman, Tx., Jeremy Simmons and wife Mittie of Roberta, Okla., Brandi Simmons of Roberta, Okla., Rusty Williamson and wife Mindy of Allen, Tx. and Kelsie Williamson of Allen, Tx.; great-grandchildren Cassidy, Tanner, Luke, Bo, and Jacin Balentine all of Durant, Okla., Jessica and Tyler Balentine of Mead, Okla., Rumer Coe Simmons of Roberta, Okla., Taitum, Talon, and Trey Balentine of Aubrey, TX , Paige and Candice Simmons of Roberta, Okla., Kimber and Joe Waltner of Columbus, Montana, Riley Williamson of Allen, Tx., and Brianna Stidham of Allen, Tx., and great-great-grandson Kinsler Kolt Balentine of Durant, Okla., and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Stanley Jackson Young, Jr.; brothers Ray Allen Young, Curtis Lee Young, Charles Hardy Young and John D. Young, and sister Wanda Jean Settles.
Pallbearers will be Tom Burckett, Edgar White, Loyd Shelton, Ray Robinett, Mike Ippolito, and Danny Allembaugh.
