Southeastern Oklahoma State University is hosting this year’s regional National Intercollegiate Flying Association Region VI flight competition.

The competition consists of eight schools in the region from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

The schools compete in flight maneuvers and ground exercises based on situations pilots may encounter.

Competitions include landing with power and without power, message dropping and flight pattern simulators.

The top three schools from the region will go on to compete in the nationals competition in the spring.

SE came in 13th place in the nation last year.

“I think we are going to a lot better than last year,” said SE senior Bobby Jacobs.

Jacobs is the captain of the SE team.

Jacobs said that he thinks the team did well on the first day of competition this year. The competition will end Friday with an awards banquet.
