Sam “Savage Sam” Cruz a resident of Durant, Oklahoma was taken from this life too soon on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the young age of 30 years and 5 days. He was born in Madill, Oklahoma to Robert Briones and Joy Ann (Galey) Pickens on Tuesday, November 30, 1982.

Sam was a member of the Bass Club and loved to fish. He served as the OKPP treasurer. Sam attended Victory Life Church in Durant, Oklahoma. He was a student of life who always had a smile, loved to laugh and make those around him laugh also. Sam enjoyed working with his hands. He was very generous and gladly took care of and provided for his sisters. Sam grew roses and enjoyed presenting them to friends. He was a talented performer who participated in historical reenactments at Fort Washita. Sam will be missed by all those who knew him.

Sam is survived by his mother, Joy Ann Pickens of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Daniel Conditt and wife Kiesha of Calera, Oklahoma; sisters, Sally Pickens, Laura Beth and Kaylynn Pickens of Durant, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Kyla, Scott, Stephen and Skyla Conditt, Kenzie and Karlie Carter all of Calera, Oklahoma; other brothers, Jacob, Bronson, Ben, Jesse and Robert Ortiz all of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Solomon Quito of Lakewood, Washington; numerous aunts, uncles other cousins and family members.

Mr. Cruz was preceded in death by his father, Robert Briones in 1983.

There will be a reception in honor of Sam’s life at 3:00 PM on Friday, December 7 at the Armstrong Baptist Church in Armstrong, Oklahoma.
