Silo hosting softball, baseball tourneys

Some of the best diamond talent in southern Oklahoma will gather in Silo and Calera this weekend for three separate tournaments: Two baseball and one softball.

Silo is hosting baseball and softball tournaments starting today and running through Saturday. Nine softball teams and eight baseball teams will take to the fields over the course of the three-day event.

The baseball bracket has a distinct playoff flavor, as seven of the eight teams are ranked in the top 15 of Class A and B teams. At 1 p.m. Thursday, No. 7 Silo hosts Stonewall; No. 3 Colbert takes on No.12 (Class B) Tupelo at 3; No.8 Tushka gets No.9 Soper at 5; and Class B’s top team Red Oak has No. 13 Caney at 7 p.m.

Friday games will also be held at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Saturday finals are at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

On the softball side, there will be eight games on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. No. 12 Silo hosts Tupelo at 7 p.m. Other competitors include Class A No. 1 Roff, 3A No. 11 Davis, Class B No. 15 Stonewall and No. 20 Stuart, as well as Mill Creek, Latta and Konawa.

Friday games will be held at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday games will be held at11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Calera hosts a three-day event which is as close as one can get to a “Bryan County” baseball tournament. Six of the eight teams are from local schools.

Games start Thursday at 2 p.m. when Achille takes on No. 7 (Class B) Coleman. The host Bulldogs have Turner at 4 p.m., followed by Boswell vs. Wapanucka at 6 p.m. Second round games begin Friday at 10 a.m., except for a noon opener between Bennington and Ripley to shake things up a bit.

Other Friday games will start at 2, 4, and 6 p.m. Saturday games are set for noon, 2 p.m. and a championship at 4 p.m.
