CADDO — Silo utilized 17 walks issued by the Lady Bruins to take a 13-4 fast-pitch softball win on Monday.
The Lady Bruins took an early 3-2 lead which knocked out Lady Rebel starting pitcher Mary Grider. Catie Simmons came on and finished the game for Silo, allowing just one run late in the game.
Caddo’s Ricki Braziell was 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Tobi Miller and Haley Harris were both 2-3, with an RBI apiece. Jessi Price had a single, Allison Joines singled and scored a run, Desiree Haugen scored a run and Carrie Henson collected an RBI.
A series of defensive gems went for naught as Caddo infielders Kali Whisenhunt and Ricki Braziell made several important stops. In the third, Caddo centerfielder Kelsi Boone turned a catch into a double play by rocketing the throw to Baziell to surprise a Silo runner at second.
Silo only recorded one hit against Caddo’s Tobi Miller, but the massive walk total doomed the Lady Bruins despite her four Ks. Mary Grider’s two-RBI double in the fifth was the only offensive highlight for Silo.
Still, the Lady Rebels improved to 15-7 on the season, following a 2-2 outing at the Roff Tournament last week.
“We’re trying to iron out all the kinks and fine tune what we’ve been doing,” said Silo softball Coach Mike McDonald. More than a week remains before the district playoffs, and already the Lady Rebs have doubled up their win total from last season.
Aggressive base running helped Silo score runs on Monday. Stolen bases were taken by Skylar Logan (two), Kaci Blankenship and Brooke Sanford (two).
Silo hosts Coalgate today before taking on Sterling on Friday afternoon at the OKC Shootout, held at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in the state capital. Caddo will visit VLA on Thursday for a game at Billy Miller Park in Durant.
