DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern women’s tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for its accomplishments in the classroom for the 2011-12 season.
The ITA grants awards to All-Academic Teams as well as individual Scholar-Athletes.
The Savage Storm took home the honor as a team, and was one of just two Great American Conference schools to attain that honor.
Individually, Amanda Gomes, Caitin Bell and Riley Brooks each took home Scholar-Athlete honors.
Bell was an education major from Edmond, Okla., Brooks was a business major from Durant, Okla., and Amanda Gomes is a biology major also from Durant, Okla.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
