Demolition of the Texoma Lodge in Marshall County began this week to pave the way for a massive $750 million resort planned by Pointe Vista Development on the north shore of the lake.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Chicksaw Pointe Golf Course Clubhouse and the company is planning to release its 36-month plan for the former state park.

The lodge, which opened in 1957, has been closed since December 2006 after much of the original state park was sold by the state, or is under contract to be sold, to PVD.

PVD plans to complete a hotel by 2014, according to the company’s Web site.

Other preliminary plans for the resort include: single and multi-family condominiums, residential lots with lake frontage view, spa services, a golf cart bridge over Highway 70, a nature center enhanced through a joint effort with the Department of Tourism, nature trails and a jet capable airport.
