DURANT — The Southeastern Oklahoma State University Police Department responded to a theft that occurred at the construction site for a new general classroom building on campus.

According to an SE police report, $400 worth of tools were stolen from the 1503 N. Seventh Ave. property between 9 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday.

An employee with CMS Willowbrook Construction, which is construction manager at risk for the $5 million project, reported the theft. Police reported on the incident at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the report, the suspect(s) climbed onto the roof of 22,500 square-foot classroom building and threw buckets of screws off, removed vent hoods and belts to motors, turned over equipment on the floor level and stole tools from an unlocked storage box inside what will be the data room.

Tools stolen from the construction site include a saw, screwdrivers, a laser level and one set of toners, the report stated.

On the roof, campus police found two different tracks from what appear to be tennis shoes, according to the report.

Campus police are investigating the crime and have no suspects at this time.

In other crime news, a man arrested and charged in April after police said he entered a home brandishing a 2X4 piece of lumber had the charged dismissed this week.

Robert Brandt Jr., 21, Achille, was arrested after Durant Police responded to a home in the 1100 block of West Louisiana Street. One of the alleged victims said a man, later identified by police as Brandt, entered the home brandishing a piece of lumber and yelling, “Give me my money.”

Juveniles told police that the man acted as if he was going to hit one of them. Brandt was arrested that morning after a traffic stop, according to police, and was later charged with first-degree burglary and assault and/or battery with a dangerous weapon.

The charges against Brandt have been dismissed due to a complaining witness failing to appear for a court hearing.
