Three charged with drug crimes

Three people have been charged with drug crimes this week, following arrests by Durant Police.

Charges with possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute were: Candace Michelle Banta, 26, Grand Prairie, Texas, Sunita Rai Ballard, 32, Tacoma, Wash., and Jerrell Jamal Hall-Gravesm 25, residency not listed.

They were arrested Sunday after a traffic stop by Durant Police on Highway 69/75. According to an affidavit, Hall-Graves was the driver, and there was a strong odor of marijuana on his person, plus emitting from the vehicle.

Banta and Ballard were passengers, the affidavit states, and when Ballard got out of the vehicle, the officer observed a chunk of green, leafy substance on the floorboard.

During a search of the vehicle, police and found several chunks of a green, leafy substance with a total weight of 31 grams, according to the affidavit, and $4,000 cash was also found. Banta possessed another 14 grams of the substance, according to police, and the seized substances tested postivive for THC, a marijuana ingredient.

In other crimes, Billy Paul Bishop, 25, Silo, was charged Tuesday with first-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property. Bishop is accused of breaking into an occupied dwelling Monday in the 2oo block of Lear Street in Durant and taking three truck motors with stands.

Rosa Mae Perez, 23, Durant, was charged Tuesday with attempted second-degree burglary. Court papers state Perez attempted to break into the back door of Jerry’s Drive-thru on North First Avenue.
