DURANT — Drug charges were filed against two Durant residents, following a traffic stop by the highway patrol and a subsequent search of a motel room by Durant Police.

Camille Dawn Mowles, 31, and William Monroe Sherer, 25, were charged Monday with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

According to police, Trooper Michael Green stopped Mowles Saturday morning for a traffic violation and he seized a pill from her. Mowles told Green she was staying at a motel on South Ninth Avenue with her boyfriend and that they were going to have a party, the report stated.

Sgt. Jim Smarr and Officer Tim McEachern went to the motel and a man identified as Sherer answered the door. Police said they smelled an odor of marijuana and officers later obtained a search warrant.

According to police, methamphetamine, currency, a handgun and numerous plastic baggies were seized. Later that evening while Smarr was working on the arrest report, Sherer’s phone rang and a text message stated “R u ok?” the report stated.

Smarr, according to police, arranged to meet with the woman who sent the text message, and the car she was in was stopped in the 100 block of South 12th Avenue.

Christy Dawn Mitchell, 36, Durant, was arrested for possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. She was charged Monday.
