TUPELO - The Lady Eagles of Victory Life Academy settled for a split at the Tupelo fast-pitch tournament, defeating Coleman 12-4 on Friday after a Thursday loss to the host Lady Tigers.

VLA dropped eight runs on the Lady Wildcats in the first inning, but Coleman got two back in their half of the inning. After the Lady Eagles took an 11-4 lead into the third, the final run put the run-rule into effect, allowing the VLA defense to shut down Coleman for a three-inning win.

Victory Life softball Coach Debbie Ball was pleased with the effort, as the lady Eagles improved to 2-5 on the season.

“It was definitely a team effort, they all put it in play,” she said. “Everyone was making contact with the ball. We only had one strikeout.”

Leadoff hitter Madison Waterman had a double and a triple in Friday’s win. Pitcher Kylie Williams took the victory.

“She came back and really fought hard to get strikes,” said Ball. “She sprained her ankle yesterday, so she really fought through it.”

A Saturday morning game in Tupelo was cancelled due to rain. The next game for VLA will be at 4 p.m. Monday in the “Battle of the Lady Eagles” between Victory Life and Achille.
