A man wanted by authorities is now in custody and facing additional charges.

Charles Brandon Lyde, 18, Colbert, was arrested Tuesday, and on Wednesday, he was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding a police officer.

According to court papers, Lyde was driving a stolen Cadillac on June 5 and he eluded a Calera police officer who attempted to stop him. The Cadillac was later found abandoned.

Before these charges were filed Lyde was wanted on outstanding warrants for drug crimes, plus he is a suspect in automobile thefts, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.

Late Sunday afternoon, Lyde was seen getting into a Trans Am traveling toward Colbert on Highway 91, according to a report by Deputy Tim McEachern.

McEachern and Colbert Police Chief Wayne Vanscoy saw the vehicle turn onto Cardinal Lane in Colbert, and Vanscoy activated his emergency lights.

Lyde, the report stated, exited the vehicle before it came to a complete stop, and he ran into a wooded area. Authorities then set up a perimeter to search for Lyde, but he was not found until his arrest Tuesday.

Bond for Lyde was set at $10,000.
