A home burned down over the weekend near Bokchito, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
Jerry L. Riley told Bryan County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Nave that he left his home Saturday evening in the 3200 block of Arnett Road and when he returned Sunday afternoon, it had burned to the ground.
The Bennington Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, although the home had already burned. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to investigate. Riley did have insurance, according to the report.
Durant firefighters responded to three fires on Monday. At 12:15 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of South Ninth Avenue after a truck full of furniture caught on fire. The back of the truck was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. They put out the fire and left the scene at 1:06. The fire started in the bed of the truck and a cause was not disclosed. Virginia Airington was the owner of the truck.
Firefighters responded to another vehicle fire at 4:45 p.m. in the 3000 block of West University Boulevard. The report stated that a person had been working on the motor when it started smoking, burning the engine area. The vehicle was owned by Steve Ginden.
Firefighters were dispatched to the city landfill at 6:07 p.m. off South Ninth Avenue after trash caught on fire. According to the fire department, firefighters were not able to drive a truck to the fire and called for a bulldozer operator. Firefighters stood by until he arrived.
