Durant Main Street announced this week’s Music on Market Square will feature Larry Whaley. The evening will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday with hot dogs. At 6 p.m., the United Way campaign will kick off.
At 7 p.m., Music on Market Square will begin. The First Christian Church Praise band will also play. The public is invited to the outdoor stage at First and Evergreen in Downtown Durant.
Whaley sings traditional country music. Strongly influenced by bluegrass, gospel and old country, he sings and plays acoustic guitar and harmonica. He does original songs as well as traditional country and has CDs available.
Whaley has performed in the Branson, Mo., area, and has had original songs recorded and released nationally, including “You’re Still Every Note I Ever Play,” and more recently, “The Last Country Song.” He was raised in northwest Texas and southern Oklahoma and currently lives with his wife Ellen near Burneyville.
The lineup for the remainder of the season has also been set. Whaley will return on Sept.10. Morris McCann will be back Sept. 3, and Mikayla Lee will perform Sept. 17. Country Explosion will end the season Sept. 24.
“Larry has been with us earlier this season, and he was very popular with our crowd. He has also played recently at That Country Music Place,” said Donna Dow, Durant Main Street program manager.
