DURANT — Warrants have been issued for the arrests of two people accused of stealing firearms from a residence last year.

Buddy Ray Pittman, 23, and Kelly Jo Connel, 30, were charged Thursday afternoon with second-degree burglary.

The charges are the result of an investigation by Durant Police Detective Brian Chavez. In October 2008, three shotguns were stolen out of a residence in the 1000 block of E. Main Street.

The case was assigned to Chavez in February, and in September of this year, a Madill detective told Chavez about a shotgun that had been pawned in Madill. According to the affidavit, the person who pawned it pleaded guilty earlier this year to false declaration of ownership to a pawnbroker.

Chavez questioned Connel earlier this month and she admitted that she entered the home and stole the guns, the affidavit states, and that Pittman waited outside.

According to the affidavit, she handed the firearms to Pittman and told him to put them in the car.

She also told Chavez that she pawned one of the shotguns because Pittman is a convicted felon and she did not want to get him in trouble, according to police. Another stolen firearm that Pittman left at a Madill residence was also recovered.

Pittman presently is in prison on other offenses, according to court records.
