BLUE - The Lady Mustangs scored 39 runs in three games Thursday to outlast Achille and Caddo and emerge as fast-pitch district champions.

Aree Young and Breanna Iams combined pitching duties over the three-game set, shutting down Achille 12-0 and Caddo 8-0 before a 19-6 final over the Lady Bruins.

And there was plenty of hitting for Rock Creek. Macey Eiler knocked a three-run blast over the Holland’s Mobile Home Service sign in right field, and Katelyn Blackburn and Adree Young both had in-the-park homers in the game against the Lady Eagles.

The district championship game started out competitively, as Caddo got back three runs to follow a six-run first for the host Lady Mustangs. Jessi Price made a good stop behind second base to strand two Rock Creek runners in the second, and a double for Ricki Braziell scored Hayley Crosslen to get Caddo within two runs at 6-4.

But the Lady Mustangs put up seven runs in the third and never looked back. Michelle Wheeler had a two-RBI hit, and Rock Creek was up 13-4 before a Caddo double play ended the inning.

Adree Young hit a triple down the right field line in the fourth, and she eventually scored on an RBI by Aree Young. Another good grab by Caddo’s Price at second ended the fourth.

Rock Creek Coach Tony Young said this district title is special because of the team’s youth, starting five or six freshmen each game. The team only has two seniors in its ranks.
