DURANT — Police arrested a man Wednesday following an investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old girl.
Travis Anthony Britton Steele, 18, Durant, was charged Thursday with two counts of child sexual abuse.
An affidavit by Durant Police Detective Lt. Chris Marcy states that a girl disclosed to her mother that she had been touched.
Marcy questioned Steele, who admitted to touching and sexually assaulting the victim, according to the affidavit.
Steele was booked into jail and is being held on $150,000 bond.
In other crimes, James Earl Hicks, 28, Bennington, was sentenced to two years probation and one month of home detention for a federal charge of embezzlement and theft from the Choctaw Nation, United States Attorney Sheldon J. Sperling for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee announced.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Hicks embezzled from the Choctaw Nation during an approximate six-month period in 2004. He was charged following an investigation by the FBI and pleaded guilty to the crime in March.
Hicks was also ordered to pay $5,122.34 in restitution.
Sheriff’s deputies have also investigated the following crimes recently:
— Marybeth Davis told Deputy Kevin Nave that cash, a ring, DVD player and two containers of pepper spray were stolen out of her vehicle in the 3000 block of Sandstone Road.
— Weldon Southern’s vehicle was “egged” at the East Burns Run Campground. Southern told Deputy John R. Hoffpauir II that, after he drove the vehicle home, he discovered that paint had been damaged by eggs.
— Greg Hibbs told Deputy Nave that an 11-foot inflatable boat tied to the back of his sailboat at Platter Flats was stolen.
