If you like Hall of Fame stuff, you’re in the right place.

Three halls, eight outstanding inductees, and all in the next five weeks.

Former Bryan County coach Alvie Nelson leads off the hit parade at noon Saturday when he enters the Murray State College Hall of Fame.

The Bryan County Athletics Hall of Fame is scheduled for January 24 and it includes, as always, the bonus of the Bryan County Basketball Tournament championship games.

Another bonus is that the games will be held in the new arena on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

The building seats a bit more than 3,000 and that will avoid some of the problems we’ve had over the last few years with fans being left out because Bloomer Sullivan Gym was beyond full.

Fair warning. Just because the arena holds more fans, that’s not a reason to come late. Bryan County turns out for this tournament.

First, there are the championship games. Then we have the Hall of Fame honorees and the Pioneers of Girls’ Basketball.

A couple of ladies supposed to be on hand have used up most of a century and that alone is worth the price of admission.

The Bryan County Hall of Fame will induct three this year.

Dana Simpson of Calera, Jerry Don Williams of Rock Creek, and Anthony Williams of Caddo will be the headliners.

SOUTHEASTERN’S Hall of Fame will have four new members.

Induction ceremonies will be held February 14 with dinner beginning at 4 p.m. in the Visual and Performing Arts Center.

Some of you may remember Crystal Robinson, a 3-time All-America who went on to an outstanding professional career.

Jack Hedden coached Southeastern 10 years and left with the second-most wins behind only legendary coach Bloomer Sullivan.

Tommy McVay was an outstanding track and basketball player.

Charlie Johnston was a lefthanded quarterback and pitcher for the Savages.

This is all bulletin-board material, so mark your calendars accordingly. More information on the Hall of Famers will be coming soon.

SOMETHING NEW comes to town February 20-21-22.

Coach Ron Faubion and his Southeastern softballers will host the South Central Shootout at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.

The 15-team field has three from Oklahoma, five from Kansas, four from Texas, two from Missouri and one from Nebraska in what could well be the strongest NCAA Division II tournament in the country.

Emporia State (Kansas) was the national runner-up last year and St. Edward’s (Texas) finished third. Both will be in Durant for this shootout.

There will be 45 games over the three-day span and this is another great chance for Durant to prove it’s a big-time tournament town.

If we do this one right — like we did the Lone Star Softball Crossover Tournament a year ago — teams will be lining up to come here.

We’re centrally located and have the facilities. Those two things help, but it still takes friendly folks and a well-run tournament to bring the teams back to town.
