A toddler is in critical but stable condition after he ran out onto the highway Tuesday on Highway 70 in Mead.
Braydon Nuttall, 2, Durant, was flown by LifeStar helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Dallas, where he is being treated for head injuries, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.
According to the patrol, Nuttall ran out onto the highway at 9:07 p.m. and an eastbound vehicle driven by Ashton Revels, 20, Durant, swerved to the right to try to avoid hitting the boy.
Nuttall ran into the driver’s side of the vehicle, got up and ran back across the roadway. The boy was conscious after the accident and he was transported to Cardinal Glass, where he was picked up by helicopter.
Revels and a passenger in her car, Brittney Stewart, 18, Durant, were not injured.
Trooper David McCutcheon investigated the accident.
In other accidents, a Duncan man was killed after crashing his semi truck Tuesday on Highway 69/75 south of Tushka.
According to the patrol, William K. Lewin, 54, was southbound at 3:33 p.m. when he drove off the left side of the roadway for an unknown reason. Lewin was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive head injuries.
The cause of the accident is unknown and under investigation by the patrol.
