CALERA — Girls: The Calera Lady Bulldogs made short work of the visiting Thackerville Lady Wildcats on Tuesday night with a 64-24 win. Taylor Pickett led all Calera scorers with 20 points and Ashlyn Cooper followed with 18 points.

“I thought we shot the ball well, rebounded better and just played hard,” said Calera coach Lachelle Brown after the game.

The Lady Bulldogs (13-9) hit five three-pointers and led 19-2 after the first quarter. Pickett scored nine points in the first, all from behind the arc. Calera started the second quarter on an 11-0 run to take a commanding lead. The Lady Bulldogs played strong on the defensive end and only allowed four points in the second quarter and led 37-6 at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs followed with a solid second half to win their final home game of the regular season. Micaela Curtman finished with 9 points and Raylee Rogers scored 7 points. Kaylee Ervin scored 4 points and Lynsie Patton and Madi Robinson each scored 3 points.

“Lou Patton is my only senior this year and I thought it was a good night for her,” said Brown. “She is a great kid and a great ballplayer.” The next game on the schedule for Calera will be a trip to Turner on February 1 to take on the Lady Falcons.

Boys:

The Calera Bulldogs defeated the Thackerville Wildcats 54-30 in the second game. Dakota Adams scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs. Tanner Davis scored 9 points, Preston Barkley finished with 8, and Jonathon Diamond and Riggin Rogers each scored 6 points.

The Bulldogs led 10-3 after the first quarter. Diamond scored 6 points as both teams struggled to score in the early minutes of the game. “We came out a little flat tonight after our game on Saturday but we played good enough defensively to get the win,” said Calera head coach Justin Pierce.

Shots started to fall for Calera in the second quarter and the Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 16-5 to take a 26-8 lead at halftime. The Wildcats made a run in the third quarter but it was quickly silenced by a Davis three-pointer and a couple of buckets from Adams.

The Bulldogs led 38-19 after three quarters. It was more of the same for Calera in the fourth with points from Barkley, Davis, and D.J. Hendrix.

The win gives the Bulldogs a 13-7 regular season record with district tournaments coming up soon. The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season with road games at Turner on February 1 and Atoka on February 8.
