The Durant Lions and the McAlester Buffs face-off in a Friday night fight at home. The Buffs are 3-3 over all and 3-0 in district. Playing on the road isn’t a strength of the Buffs as they are 1-2 on the road. The Lions are 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in district.

McAlester began the season losing it’s first three games, but since then the Buffs have turned it around and riding high on a three game winning streak. The Buffs offense scored an average of 18 points per game and the defense was allowing 30 points per game. Now, in the last three games the Buffs offense has came alive scoring a sky high 54 points per game and allowing 27 points.

The focus for Durant will be stopping McAlester quarterback Caden Pratt. Who is averaging 147 rushing yards and 80 passing yards per game.

“We got to stop the quarterback Pratt. He is their main threat, running and passing. He is a real good runner and above average passer.” said Lions head coach Bryon Cordell, “They have a cast of thousands in the back field and a good receiver. Every series it seems that have another player playing running back. But the quarterback is the main ball carrier.”

Who does McAlester have to watch out for? Dakota Diessner. Last week he racked 123 yards on 32 attempts and two rushing touchdowns against a good defense of the Tulsa Chargers. Diessner is a powerful running back who is the work horse of the team. He can at anytime explode and break open big runs. He will be challenged this week against the McAlester defense.

“On defense their main man is LB Devin Rolan. He has committed to the University of Tulsa. He is really good and they have a real good defensive line.” said coach Cordell.

Maxpreps.com has rated Rolan rated as one the top high school players in Oklahoma.

Though the McAlester sounds like a scary team - they are beatable. And now is the time for the Lions to make their move in district and start eyeing the post season.
