National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child kicked off Monday Nov. 12.

The project, founded in 1994, provides shoe boxes filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items to children in need across the world.

Last year the nationwide project collected over 94 million shoebox gifts for children. This year the goal is to collect 103 million boxes.

The Durant location hopes to collect 2,000 boxes this year. At the end of Monday’s collection the site had collected more than 1,000 boxes including early drop offs.

Collections will continue until 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19. The Durant drop off is located at the Bryan Baptist Association, 1925 W. Main St.
