Early voting continues Monday for Tuesday’s general election and people have been waiting in line to cast their ballots before election day.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, the cut-off time for that day’s early voting, people were still lined up out the door of the election board office and all the way to the edge of the street.

According to the Bryan County Election Board, 306 people voted Saturday. The total, counting Friday’s 526 early votes, is 832. Election Board Secretary Linda Fahrendorf said the turnout for early voting so far has been comparable to the early voting turnout during the 2008 presidential election.

In 2008, there were 579 early votes on Friday and 346 on Saturday for a total of 925, the Democrat reported in 2008.

Early voting continues from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday at the Bryan County Election Board, 217 N. 16th Ave.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The election board reminds voters that they must show their voter identification card or a driver’s license to be able to vote.

Locally, voters will be choosing between Kenneth Golden, a Democrat, and John Wyatt, a Republican, for sheriff. Bill Sturch who was first elected sheriff in 1992, did not seek reelection.

Incumbent County Clerk Tammy Reynolds, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican Glenn Russell.

Residents who live in District No. 21 will be voting on a state representative for that district. Incumbent Dustin Roberts, a Republican, is being challenged by Democrat Jerry Tomlinson. Voters will also be voting on six state questions.

Democrat Rob Wallace, Republican MarkWayne Mullin and Independent Michael G. Fulks are running for U.S. Representative for District No. 2. The winner will replace Democrat Dan Boren, who did not seek reelection.
