The Durant Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new member to the chamber family on Wednesday April 3.

The chamber did not cut the ceremonial ribbon as usual. This time, a chain was cut as the chamber welcomed in a men’s sober living house named Living Recovery.

The chain was chosen to symbolize breaking the chain of addiction. The house was started approximately one and half years ago by Tesha Clowers.

After a struggle with addiction herself, Clowers attended college and then decided to help others.

“I just got tired of living in misery,” said Clowers.

Clowers said when she decided to change, doors opened and pieces fell into place for her to get back into school and open the house.

Clowers said she saw that a sober living house had helped her father and believes men are the backbone of a community.

For these reasons she decided to open a sober living house for men in the area. The house can currently accommodate six men at a time.

The men in the house must obtain jobs, do chores and attend four meetings a week for whatever their addiction may be.

The men pay living expenses and according to Clowers, this is how the house remains open. Clowers runs the house with the support of her husband Rob and the help of house manager Joe Walker.

Living Recovery also hosted a Play Day on Saturday April 6 to raise awareness and let people know they are here.

For more information about Living Recovery or for confidential help, call Clowers at (580) 380-3087 or Walker at (580) 574-1440.
