Durant Fire Department is pointing to a possible electrical failure in the Saturday fire which destroyed one mobile home and damaged another.

Durant Fire Marshal Lisa Jackson lists a “possible electrical failure” as the likely cause of the blaze at Money Talks Trailer Park. A young woman and her baby narrowly escaped the mobile home when she was awakened by the smoke just before noon Saturday.

The neighboring trailer on the north side sustained some heat damage, according to a DFD report.

Charles Duncan, Krysti Dailey and their six-month-old daughter lost everything in the fire. Duncan recently lost his job, and was pinning his hopes on a Monday interview.

Accounts have been set up to assist the young family. Anyone wishing to make donations can do so at any First United Bank branch. The accounts are under the names of Cynthia Stafford and Krysti Dailey. The family is in urgent need of clothes for the six-month-old girl and infant formula (Similac sensitive).

In other fires, a mobile home burned down Saturday evening on Roberta Road. The Roberta Volunteer Fire Department responded to this fire and Calera Fire-Rescue provided mutual aid. The fire started in the living room area. The owner told firefighters he was in his bedroom when the fire started, and he escaped with some smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Firefighters have also put out several grass fires. Durant firefighters were dispatched at 2:15 p.m. Saturday to the 5100 block of Armstrong Road to put out a grass fire started by fireworks. That fire scorched an 80 by 80 foot area.

Another grass fire started at 8:25 that evening on Cale Switch Road at the new overpass. That fire burned approximately two acres. At 2:03 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a rubbish fire on a curb in the 600 block of Northeast Fourth Avenue.
