Two new Durant police officers have been sworn in, the first officers to be hired since the department moved into the new facility. Bryan County District Judge Mark Campbell swore in the new officers, Jared McCreary and Travis Dill. Durant Police Chaplain LaWanda “Chappy” Mabery gave the officers Bibles. McCreary graduated from Durant High School in 2004 and he served in the U.S. Army from 2007-2001. He is currently attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he is pursuing a degree in criminal justice. McCreary was born and raised in the Durant area. Dill graduated from Rock Creek High School in 2008. He has a criminal justice degree from Southeastern and has been a Durant Police reserve officer for two years. Dill is married. Durant City Manager Jim Dunegan welcomed the new officers. He said the swearing in was historical because Dill and McCreary are the first officers to be hired since the Durant Police Department moved into its new headquarters on Gerlach Drive earlier this year. “You joined a great family, so welcome to the Durant Police Department,” Dunegan said. The new officers will be hitting the streets with field training officers.
