Students from the SE Head Start Program got to demonstrate what they have learned about bike safety while raising money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital Thursday morning.
The four-and-five-year-old students have spent the past several weeks learing bike safety and learning about St. Jude Children’s hospital and the work the hospital does with children who have cancer.
Thursday morning the children participated in SE Head Start’s annual Trike-a-Thon. The children have been asking for donations over the past several weeks for laps to be rode around Dixon Durant Park in Durant.
The children took turns in groups of six riding several laps Thursday morning. Cathey Keirsey from SE Head Start said that while the final totals had not been figured Thursday morning, she believes the students raised approximately $600 for St. Jude Hospital.
She said that these students knew why they were raising the money and were very excited to do it.
“You could ask any of them and they can tell you what they are doing this for,” said Keirsey.
