Durant City Council awarded eight Employee Service Awards during the regular council meeting on Tuesday evening.

Six employees were honored for five years of service. These employees received a certificate, lapel pin and $50.

Sarah Sherrer received a certificate, lapel pin and $100 for her 10 years of service. Leon Sherrer, father-in-law to Sarah, presented her with her award. Mr. Sherrer is also the most senior member of the Durant City Council.

Mike Bush was given a certificate, lapel pin and $150 for his 15 years of service. Steve Gray received his honors for 25 years of service.

Mayor Jerry Tomlinson said that he was very pleased to award a 25-year service award. He said that it is not often he gets to do so.

Gray was awarded a framed certificate, a lapel pin, a plaque and $250 for his years of service. Gray was also awarded the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) Service Award in December.

City Council also got to acknowledge City Clerk Leta J. Whitaker during the meeting. Whitaker recently received the Master Municipal Clerk Certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.

To receive this certification a clerk must go through numerous hours of training and class work. Mayor Tomlinson said that this work will allow Whitaker to better serve the council and the city.

Also discussed in the meeting was the purchase of five Chevrolet Tahoe trucks for the Durant Police Department and one Ford F150 extended cab for Durant Animal Control.

These purchases were approved as well as bid placement to properly equip the vehicles
