Local stars danced for money Friday night at the third annual Dancing with the Stars of Durant.
Approximately 200 guests showed up to mingle, eat dinner and watch well-known locals perform dance routines.
Five teams competed for scores from local judges and votes from the crowd. The winner of Friday’s competition was determined by the amount of money raised through audience votes.
Teams consisted of Calera Police Chief Don Hyde and partner Kristen Shanahan of KXII, Bryan and Bridget Wandel, Jay Cuesta and partner Morgan Graham, DMS Principal Tod Harrison and partner Jenny Rizzo, a SE choreographer and dance instructor, and Ken and Lauren English.
The evening was filled with banter between dance teams and judges. Banter became a show in itself when Don Hyde challenged Tod Harrison to a private dance off.
Though no judgment was officially made with this dance off, the crowd cheered the two men on. Scores given by the judges held no actually meaning in the competition and ranged from would be sevens to double 10 and 106.
After all teams had danced to various musical styles and song mash-ups, votes with $5 donations were collected from the audience to determine a winner.
Ken and Lauren English took both the Crowd Pleaser Award and Over-All award for their performance. More than $2,000 in live votes were collected Friday night to support the Durant Main Street Program.
