Cause of fires at same property under investigation

An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office was scheduled to arrive in Durant today to investigate multiple fires at the same property.

Durant firefighters put out a shed fire Monday morning at 12 E. Alabama St., and on Tuesday, they responded again at 11:41 a.m.

According to the fire department, the shed as fully engulfed in flames when they arrived three minutes later. The blaze also spread to a camper trailer that was six feet away and the back of it was fully engulfed. A pickup parked 15 feet from the shed also was damaged in the fire, plus a four wheeler parked 20 feet away was damaged.

Firefighters had the fire under control in approximately 12 minutes and they cleared the scene at 1:36 that afternoon.

Firefighters returned to the property at 9:43 p.m. Tuesday after a tree limb ignited from the fire that had been put out that afternoon.

Deputy Durant Fire Chief Marc Hall said the cause of the fires remains under investigation.

Also Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched at 9:10 a.m. to 102 Waldron Drive after an acetylene bottle caught fire inside a building under construction. Firefighters carried the acetylne torch outside and put it out. There was no damage to the building.
