Durant Chamber of commerce along with several city, county and state officials joined at the new location of the Department of Public Safety Driver’s License Testing Facility Wednesday morning.
They joined together for a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for the new facility. The testing facility moved locations from a small building on South 4th Avenue to the former police department on South 5th Avenue.
Several officials spoke at the event stating, that Durant now has one of the premier driver’s license testing facilities in the state.
Examiners at the facility said the new facility is a huge improvement over the old location. This facility offers a large indoor sitting area that can be separated from the testing area and locked so parents can sit inside while their children are taking a driving test.
Parents had to be locked outside at the old location to insure nobody could get into the testing area while no instructor was present.
The new facility also offers men and women’s restrooms, new computer systems and software used across the state.
The office moved into the new facility approximately three weeks ago and has already received positive feedback from the community.
Area Supervisor Steve Bunyard said that this is absolutely the nicest facility in the district and makes it a nice place to come to work.
Department of Public Safety Assistant Commissioner Rick Adams said this was important because often times when a person moves to the state this is their first point of contact with the Oklahoma government.
“This is where you see government at its best, when everyone comes together,” said Adams.
He said facilities such as this one have a positive impact on people when dealing with the state government.
