A Denison man drowned Monday while swimming in the Red River, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Enrique Amador, 29, was swimming with friends at approximately 3 p.m. below the spillway of the Denison Dam in Bryan County, according to the patrol, and he was last seen sitting on rocks in the body of the river.

Friends called him and when they did not respond, they walked to their vehicle, and when they looked again, he was no longer on the rocks and could not be seen in the water.

Authorities recovered his body at 5:08 that evening in about four feet of water approximately 10 feet from the north shoreline and approximately 1,500 feet east of the dam.

The drowning was investigated by Trooper Greg Williams of OHP’s marine enforcement division.

Trooper James Reinecker of Bryan County, Cartwright Search & Rescue, the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Colbert EMS and Corps of Engineers assisted.

The body was taken to Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant and the State Medical Examiner’s Office was notified of the drowning.

In other accidents, a man was injured Monday when a propane tank exploded at a mobile home on Timberline Road in Lakewood Ranchettes. The victim was flown to an out—of-county hospital to be treated for burn injuries.

According to the Lakewood Fire Department, a propane tank was being filled and it exploded while being pressure tested. Additional details were not available and the incident is under investigation.
