Competency hearing for murder suspect postponed

A competency hearing for a man charged with first-degree murder has been rescheduled.Mark Anthony Neal, 22, Durant, was charged July 30 for the murder of Frank Wendell Owens II, 22, Bokchito. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Neal shot Owens in the head with a .17-caliber rifle. He also is charged with third-degree arson for the burning of a pickup driven by the victim.Neal was originally scheduled for a competency hearing Thursday, however, Neal’s attorney, D. Michael Haggerty II, requested it be postponed to allow him to obtain an expert on competency.Special Associate District Judge Trace Sherrill agreed and set Oct. 23 as the new date.
