Secretary who worked under Jay Paul Gumm sentenced

A woman who, along with former State Sen. Jay Paul Gumm, was charged with embezzlement in Stone County, Miss., has pleaded guilty to the charge.The Stone County Enterprise reported this week that Tina Owens Gillespie pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with the last 12 years suspended.Gillespie was the executive secretary of the Stone County Economic Development Partnership, and according to the newspaper, she admitted to forging signatures and cashing checks that added up to more than $400,000.Gumm, who was the former SCEDP executive director, also is accused of embezzling more than $24,000, according to a news release from Misssisipi State Auditor Stacey Pickering.
