The Durant High School girls 2017 state powerlifting champions will be honored on the field prior to Durant’s football game Friday night against Ada at Paul Laird Field.
In the April competition the Lady Lions set eight state records and had four individual champions in their divisions.
Leading the way was Kendall Thompson, who recorded first place honors in all three lifts (squat, bench and deadlift) on the way to becoming state champion.
Alyssa French, Cassidy Ward and Bailee Arthur each finished first in two events, on the way to becoming state champions.
“It was an honor to coach these young ladies and to watch them compete at such a high level,” DHS powerlifting coach Ron Norman stated. “This will be with them for a lifetime as they are the first girls powerlifting state champion for their weight classes.”
