The odds were definitely not in Southeastern’s favor heading into Saturday’s final Great American Conference football road game of the season at Arkansas Tech, facing the surging Wonder Boys.

Arkansas Tech took full advantage, jumping out to a 31-0 advantage over the beleaguered Savage Storm on the way to a 48-10 triumph in Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field.

To add to the Southeastern injury woes, quarterback Austin Skinner went down in the second half and did not return. His status is unknown heading into this week’s season finale.

After dropping four in a row following their 6-0 start, the Savage Storm will look to right the ship against arch rival East Central this week and equal their 7-4 finish from a year ago.

Southeastern managed 96 total yards on its first five possessions against Arkansas Tech before finally getting a spark with its two-minute offense late in the second stanza.

Skinner connected with Jaylen Sims on a 42-yard pass to set up his nine-yard scoring toss to Skye Lowe only 11 seconds before intermission.

The Savage Storm looked to have another golden opportunity when Desmond Luster covered an onside kick but Joel Carlos’ 44-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right as time expired.

Coach Bo Atterberry’s squad put together its best offensive drive of the day coming out of the break, marching 62 yards in eight plays sparked by a 46-yard strike to Felton Hatcher.

The visitors had to settle for a 30-yard Carlos field goal that trimmed the deficit to 31-10, which proved to be as close as it would get.

Arkansas Tech totaled 535 yards, including 390 on the ground, while Southeastern ended with 369 total yards from scrimmage.

Skinner tallied 187 yards passing with Sims catching four for 59 yards and Hatcher three for 67.

Jarrett Ingram topped the Savage Storm defensive effort with 10 tackles while Powell contributed nine.
