ARDMORE – The Durant Lions took down the Ardmore Tigers 77-73 in a intense battle in Ardmore on Tuesday night as the Lions got the season sweep over the Tigers. Durant beat Ardmore 70-66 in their first meeting at home in December.
The Lady Lions cold shooting performance doom them in a 84-27 loss to the Lady Tigers.
The Durant boys raised their record to 8-4 on the season and are ranked No. 19 by OSSAA in Class 5A.
It was anybody’s game.
The Tigers led after the third quarter, but the Lions hung around and grabbed the lead in the fourth period and the win.
The Tigers took a quick 6-0 lead to start the first period. Then the Wes Engle stop the run with a 3-pointer and Tyler Shade made bucket to cut into Ardmore’s lead 6-5. The Tigers went on another 6-0 run and again Engle drained a 3-pointer to stop the run, Shade got another basket and Engle hit from beyond the arc again to give the Lions a 13-12 lead. Durant would go on a 7-6 run at the end of the period and led 20-18.
The Lions outscored Ardmore in the second period 18-12 and led 38-30 headed into halftime. Taylor Cox had 6 points in the second period, Alex Steve had 5 points, Engle hit a 3-pointer, Shade and Tre Harper both had buckets.
In the third period, the Tigers fought back and took a 56-55 into the final frame of the game.
The Lions started the fourth quarter with a 9-6 run and the was tied 64-64. Cox gave the Lions a 66-64 lead after two made free throws. Then Ardmore got a bucket to tie the game again. Then Durant’s Haroon Alther hit a 3-pointer, Harper split his free throws and Steve made two free-throws and the Lion led 72-66.
Then Ardmore completed a 4 point play at the free throw line and trailed Durant 73-70 with 48 seconds left. Then Ardmore split their free throws and trailed 73-71. But Durant’s Cox was fouled and made both free throws and Harper put the nail in the coffin with a fast break lay up and the Lions beat the Tigers for the second time this season.
The Lady Lions offensive troubles continued as the Lady Tigers took a 40-9 halftime lead. The Lady Lions couldn’t keep up the Lady Tigers high-octane offense in the third period as Ardmore led 63-17 headed into the last period. Breanna Simmons had a bucket, Christian Chaney made a 3-pointer and Hannah Hime hit a 3-pointer in the third period.
In the fourth period, Haley Morgan scored 8 points on the back of two 3-pointers. But the Lady Lions couldn’t stop the Lady Tigers and the Durant fell 84-27.
