ROCK CREEK – Tip off for game two in the ladies’ competition of the Bryan County Tournament Monday night featured the Boswell Lady Scorpions vs The Rock Creek Lady Mustangs in the second tight match up for the night. Boswell came away with the win over Rock Creek in the final score of 53-50.
Leading scorer for the Lady Mustangs was Kaci Haislip with 14 points followed by Bethany Burns with 10 points. Scoring highest for the Lady Scorpions was Hailey Belvin with 19 points with Breasha Williams next with 17 points total.
Starting things off a little slow in the first half, Boswell took the early lead in the first period with the score at 11-9. After several trips to the free throw line in period two, the Lady Mustangs would have the advantage going into halftime with the lead of 19-17. The action began to heat up in round three with Boswell’s Breah Stewart heading up the first real run of the game of 7-1 that was capped off by a three point swisher from Williams. Rock Creek followed up with a 5-7 run of their own led by Bethany Burns. The remainder of the quarter showed up and down action from both sides before the buzzer left Boswell ahead by just one point with the score at 35-34 going into the fourth round.
The Lady Scorpions were eager to put some distance between scores and came out fighting for the final period with a 9-0 run that featured a three point hit from Williams.The Lady Mustangs jumped in quickly on a 7-9 run that left them trailing by 3 and the score at 41-44 in favor of the Lady Scorpions.
The remainder of the period saw multiple trips to each team’s free throw lines with one or two scores at the basket from each side. In the end, the Lady Scorpions emerged the victor and set to carry on to the next round of the tournament on Thursday evening in Rock Creek.
