Caddo, Tushka grab first round wins in BCT

ACHILLE – It was ladies first as the Bryan County Tournament got underway Monday night in Achille.

The Colbert Lady Leopards fell in a tight game to Tushka 45-42 and the Caddo Lady Bruins got a run away win over the Achille Lady Eagles 54-26.

Colbert vs Tushka:

It was a very competitive game between Colbert and Tushka as it wasn’t decided until the very last second.

Tushka’s Jaylee Eaves had a game high 30 points, Lauren Hauff had 6 points, Ryann Lochran and Grace Wall both had 3 points each.

Haylie McGowan led Colbert with 19 points, Kayla Layton finished with 13 points and Krista Conner had 7 points.

Colbert trailed Tushka 13-5 midway through the first period, then they fought back with a 5-0 run to end the period as Tushka led 13-10.

In the second period, Layton and McGowan brought back the Lady Leopards and tied the game 20-20 with minute left in the half. Layton hit two 3-pointers and bucket and McGowan made a basket. Then McGowan made both her free throws to give Colbert a 22-20 lead. Eaves gave the lead back to Tushka with a 3-pointer. Then with time running out, Colbert caused a turnover and McGowan scored a basket at the buzzer on a fast break to give Colbert a 24-23 halftime lead.

Tushka and Colbert traded baskets in the third period and Tushka outscored Colbert 10-7 to grab a 33-31 lead headed into the fourth period.

Colbert started the last period with a 8-3 run after Conner hit two 3-pointers and Layton made both her free throws. Colbert led 39-38. Then Tushka went on a 8-0 run and led 44-39. Colbert’s McGowan hit a 3-pointers with 30 seconds left in the game and Tushka split their free throws and the Tushka led 45-42 with 11 seconds left. Colbert had the ball with time running down but missed the final shot and Tushka escaped with the win.

Achille vs Caddo:

Achille’s offense struggled as Caddo’s offense was on target and put three players in double digits.

Caddo’s Alli Adair led the way with 16 points, Jayci Braudrick had 13 points and Alison Hawkins had 11 points. For Achille, Raychel Alexander had 13 points and Ashleigh Brown 6 points.

Caddo overpowered Achille in the first period as took a 14-2 lead into the second period. Braudrick hit two 3-pointers for Caddo, Hawkins hit a 3-pointer and Adair scored 4 points. Chole Dittrich scored Achille’s lone basket.

In the second period, Achille fought back, but Caddo won the period 14-8 and Caddo took a 28-10 halftime lead.

Achille hit made three 3-pointers in the third period. Brown hit one and Alexander made the other two three point buckets. Caddo offense kept rolling and scored 13 points in the period.

The Lady Bruins closed out the game in the fourth period as they outscored Achille 13-7 and moved on the winner’s bracket with a 54-26 win.
