Fresh from taking the big win at Saturday’s Bryan County Tournament, the Caddo Lady Bruins hosted the Colbert Lady Leopards Tuesday night but fell short of the victory as Colbert went home with the win of 43-39 over Caddo.

Colbert’s Kayla Layton led for the Lady Leopards in scoring with a total of 15 points. She was followed by Haylie McGowan who logged 13 and Zoe Cardenas with 8 points.

For the Lady Bruins, Allie Adair nearly made it a one woman show putting up a total of 30 of Colbert’s 39 points. She was followed by Kacie Clower with 4 points.

With the score tied at 5 points to end the first period, it was Colbert that began to gain momentum to start the second period with a free throw from McGowan and a three pointer from Layton that put the Lady Leopards over Caddo by 4. Although Adair put up a total of 9 points for the period, Colbert gained the lead with help of Layton and McGowan at the basket and a three point hit from Cardenas that combined gave the Lady Leopards the 5 point lead at halftime.

Returning for the third period, Colbert was the first to score with a bucket from Brady Rowland followed up with a layup by Clower for the Lady Bruins. McGowan and Adair then each traded a basket for each side before McGowan and Allison Hawkins each traded out a basket and a point for each time on the free throw line. Cardenas and McGowan then each gave up pair of three pointers for the Lady Leopards before Adair got it back for Caddo and landed two free throws and a three point hit for the Lady Bruins, however by the buzzer, the Lady Leopards had gained in the lead by another 5 points with a score 36-26 over the Lady Bruins entering the final period.

McGowan opened the fourth quarter at the basket for the Lady Leopards before a layup from Clower for Caddo kicked off an 8-2 run over Colbert that was capped by a pair of three point swishers from Adair that narrowed the spread to just 4 points with the score now at 38-34 with 4:37 left to play.

Following a three point gain for Colbert at the free throw line by Layton and Brady Rowland, Adair again hammered out an additional 5 points for the Lady Bruins at the basket to narrow the gap to just 2 points with the score now at 41-39 in favor of the Lady Leopards and just 1:03 left on the clock. It all came down to the free throw in the end for the Lady Leopards to take this one with the final 2 points of the game going to Colbert after a foul that landed Layton back at the free throw line to add 2 to the final score of 43-39 for the Lady Leopards’ win.
