ARDMORE — The Durant Lions split thier games on the road against the Plainview Indians in Ardmore on Tuesday night.
Durant (10-8) boys team beat Plaiview in dominate fashion 70-45. The Lady Lions (4-14) had thier hands full with tough Lady Indians (17-1) Class 4A team and fell 66-39.
The Lady Lions trailed Plainview by only six points at the end of the first period. But the Lady Lions couldn’t keep up with the high scoring Plainview offense.
Ciera Taylor score 10 points for the Lady Lions, but didn’t get to finished the game as she fouled out midway through the fourth period. Breanna Simmons led Durant with 14 points, Haley Morgan had 4 points, Shayla Harper and Christian Chaney both chipped in 3 points each.
In the first period, the Lady Lions had lead 8-6 over Plainview. Simmons had a bucket and Taylor four points. Then Plainview went on a 10-0 run and Taylor stop the run with jump shot and the Lady Lions trailed 16-10.
Both teams traded buckets in the second period for the most part. But Lady Lions couldn’t get the stops they needed and Plainview led at halftime 27-19.
Plainview started to pull away from Durant on the back of four three-pointers in the third period. The Lady Lions started with a 6-4 run. Simmons had 4 points and Taylor had a bucket. But then Plainview went on a 18-3 run to close out the period and led 49-28. And Plainview went on to win, 66-39.
The game was never in doubt as the Lions led the entire game.
Durant put three players in double-digits Tuesday night against Plainview. Taylor Cox led the way with 21 points, Alex Smith had 11 points, Wes Engle had 10 points, Brody Morgan finished with and Kody Powell both a 6 points each.
The Lions took control of the game in the first period and never looked back. The Lions jumped out to a 8-2 led with six points from Cox and bucket by Steve. Plainview came back with a 4-0 run. Then Cox scored the last 5 points of the period and the Lions led 13-6.
The Indians offense got a spark in the second period and scored 14 points, but Durant’s offense stayed hot and scored 24 points and led at halftime, 37-20.
Plainview started the third period with a 6-0 run and trailed 37-27. Then Durant’s defense got stops as the Lions went on a 13-6 run to close out the period with a 50-33 lead.
The Lions contiuned to roll on in the fourth period as they outscored Plainview 20-12 and took home the win.
