A service will be at 2 p.m., Friday at Brown's Funeral Chapel, Atoka, for Patricia Ruth (Whitfield) Smith, 56, Atoka County, who died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at the Cancer Treatment Center, Tulsa. The Rev. Terry Vaughn will officiate.

She was born Sept. 22, 1947, in Denison, Texas, to James Buford and Mary Ruth (Ellington) Whitfield. She attended school in Denison and Dallas, Texas, and Grayson County Community College. She attended Christ for the Nations, Dallas and language school to learn Spanish. She married William E. Smith, Jan. 18, 1974, at Southmayd, Texas. She worked for McLeod Honor Farm as an administrative assistant, and later worked a number of years for the Department of Human Services in the Atoka juvenile office. She was a member of Living Waters Church, Antlers, and an ordained minister. She helped in prison ministry with her husband, "Smitty."

She was preceded in death by her parents, and mother- and father-in-law Edgar and Irene Smith.

She is survived by her husband of the home; children Jeffrey A. Smith and wife Shelly, Pottsboro, Texas, Mary Pat Davis and Jerri Lynn Layton, both of Durant, Amy Smith, Sherman, Texas, Jennifer Malone and husband Alex, Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren Micah Smith, Pottsboro, Texas, Brandon Davis, Jacob and Jessica Layton, Trey Davis and Julie Layton, all of Durant, Logan and Noah Malone, Fort Worth; sister Beverly Gentry and husband Richard, Sherman; in-laws Bob Smith, Annandale, N.J., Rogers and Linda Inglis, San Antonio, Texas; numerous other relatives and many very dear and loved friends.

Burial will be a Highland Cemetery, Durant with pallbearers Alex Malone, Todd Horn, Mark McMurry, Jeff Smith, Lionel Winters and Bill Etchison. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Inglis, Steve Pfaff, Fred Lowry, Bob Smtih, and Michael Inglis.

Family night is 6-8 p.m. tonight.
