Reece was born Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1933, in Walters to Richard Clarence Reece and Elva Marie (Stapp) Reece. He married Edna Earl (Ammons) on May 27, 1952 in Duncan, Oklahoma. They were married for 42 years. He married LaVanda (Rodden) Phelps Nov. 11. 1994 in Durant.
Don had very strong civic beliefs and desires for a sound county government and lived it by serving in his community and county. He served on the Caddo school board for 25 years until he became County Commissioner of District III and served on the Soil Conservation Board for 25 years as regional director.
Don leaves his wife and a legacy of children and grandchildren behind, including daughters JoDawnna Barnes and husband Farrell, Alvarado, Texas and J'Lenn Corbett and husband Joe, Kemp; sons Terrian Don Reece and wife Debbie, Caddo, Oklahoma and Gary A. Phelps and wife Cheryl, Cobb; brothers Tommy Reece and wife Carol, Wichita Falls, Texas, Milton Reece and wife Brenda, Holliday, Texas and Dale Reece and wife Darlene, Duncan; sisters Betty Kimler, Wichita Falls, Texas and Barbara Ellen Reece, Walters; grandchildren Shane Barnes and wife Monica, Farrah Barnes, Nathan Barnes, Kara Barnes, Terra Anne Reece, Chelsea Dawn Reece and Cody Corbett.
Burial will be in Matoy Cemetery with Todd Argo, Lefty Wilson, Sam Smith, Rick Boydstun, Gordon Dufer, Weldon Brown, Clay Freeny and Jerry Stanley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Laith Armstrong, John Spence, Jerry Early, Perry Michaelis, Earl Toler, David Szenasi, Leroy Ammons and Louis Prentice.
Family hour will be 7-8 p.m., today, at Dalton-Holmes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wishing Well Foundation at 3929 Veterans Blvd, Suite 303 Metairie, La 70002
