The Durant Public School systems have been mentioned by two Oklahoma governors as being exceptional schools, but a school is only as good as its teachers.

In the last 15 years, Durant has had nine teachers make the state's top lists: Pat Britt, Gayle Gaither, Barbara Gary, Deborah Raines, Henry Brigman, Melanie Merideth, Alisa Frank, Stacy Shepard and now Jan Kelley has joined those ranks.
